 Huntersville United Methodist

Huntersville United Methodist is a 100-year-old congregation of the United Methodist Church worldwide. The church was founded in the old “downtown” area of Huntersville in 1911. It moved to Ranson Street and Highway 115 location in 1960 and moved to its new, 30-acre Stumptown Road campus in the Spring of 2008. The church has approximately 800 members and has grown steadily during the past decade.

As part of the United Methodist Church (see below), HUMC is governed by hierarchical structure that includes officers at the district, conference (Western North Carolina) and national levels. Although the church operates independently in many areas, it accepts direction from larger administrative units in several areas, including the appointment of pastors. Billy Rintz, Huntersville’s current head pastor, along with the rest of its ministerial staff, serve at the pleasure of the bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference and the Episcopal staff. New appointments are typically made in the Spring of each year.

Western North Carolina Conference

ImageThe Western North Carolina Conference is one of many conferences of The United Methodist Church. Churches are organized into 15 districts. The conference boundaries encompass the western half of North Carolina from just east of Greensboro to the Tennessee state line bordered on the north by Virginia and south by South Carolina.
The WNCC vision for ministry is "Follow Jesus, Make Disciples, Transform the World," based on Matthew 28:18-20. For the 2005-2009 quadrenium, the conference is focusing on 7 components to fulfill the vision. More ›

What Is A Methodist

A United Methodist is a person who is seeking to learn and follow the ways of Jesus Christ. The Methodist movement began with John Wesley in England in the 1700's, and gained its name "United Methodist" from the 1968 merger of the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren Churches. The United Methodist Church is a worldwide church that is open to all persons. United Methodists believe in the primary role of Scripture in shaping their faith, in being mission-oriented and socially aware, and in cooperating with persons from different faiths. Persons who are ready to commit themselves to membership in the United Methodist Church do so by declaring their faith in Christ and pledging their prayers, presence, gifts and service to their local United Methodist congregation.
