Better Moms Make a Better World!

Mothers of Preschoolers - MOPS
Whether you are in the midst of your first pregnancy and are unsure what to expect, or if you have only one more year before your youngest starts kindergarten, MOPS has something in store for you. MOPS is for all mothers of children from birth to kindergarten. It is a place where moms have the opportunity to make new friends, share experiences, learn from each other, laugh together, and learn Biblical principles pertaining to womanhood, marriage, and parenting. MOPS also provides opportunities for social outings geared specifically for preschool-aged children and their mothers.
Huntersville UMC MOPS
2011-2012 is the eighth year that Huntersville United Methodist Church has hosted MOPS for area mothers. Meetings take place at the church from 9:30 – 11:30 during the first and third Fridays of the month from late September to early May.
So, what can you expect from a MOPS meeting? We start with food and fellowship as we gather together, and then enjoy a short devotion from one of our members. Next we settle in for a time of learning from one of our exciting guest speakers, or maybe a sharing time among our members. And finally we end with some discussion time with our small groups.
MOPPETS
While moms are enjoying a morning of rest and rejuvenation, children are being cared for in a loving environment called MOPPETS. They are divided into age-appropriate groups and are involved in planned activities such as games, stories, crafts, music, and physical play. All of our MOPPETS staff has been carefully screened by both HUMC MOPS members and HUMC staff.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
In addition to our regular meetings, we also have fun outings and activities available such as:
- Weekly playgroups for the kids
- Mom's Nights Out (dinner out, movies, etc.)
- Bunco nights
- Book Club
And seasonal gatherings like:
- Mom’s Retreats
- Pumpkin Patch
- Strawberry Picking
SERVICE PROJECTS
We believe that it’s important for us to help others when we can, and we have learned that participating in service projects is often a great way for us to bond and form closer relationships with each other. Some of our projects have included:
- Cookies for Kids Cancer
- Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry
- Operation Christmas Child
- Room in the Inn
Fees*
Fees include:
- Registration Fee of $34 ($24 for MOPS International** and $10 for HUMC MOPS) – due at the time of registration.

* If these fees present a financial hardship, partial and full scholarships are available or we can set up a payment plan for you. It is our desire that every woman have the opportunity to be involved in MOPS.

MOPS 2011/2012 Theme
“God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts,
but bold and loving and sensible” 2 Timothy 1:7
MomSense: Bold • Loving • Sensible – equips moms to embrace their mothering instincts and develop their own parenting style while navigating through the myriad of daily mom decisions. Most women wonder:
- How do I decide what to do when I really don’t know what to do?
- Should I trust my intuition?
- With so much available information, how do I discern what’s best?
- What are the most important family values?
Developing a mothering strategy is somewhat like playing a game — and this year’s theme is appropriately game related. Have fun being a mom! Playing games involves being bold and taking risks, loving those in the game with us and being sensible while figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
Combining her mom intuition and her common sense helps a woman discover her own unique MomSense.
(Mom Intuition + Common Sense = MomSense)
